Entering Fractions in Excel 2007

by rhyttinen on March 3, 2008

You may find that entering fractions in Excel is frustrating – for example, Excel will interpret 5/8 as a the date “May 8” and format the cell as such.  To enter a fraction that Excel can recognize, begin the formula with a 0, add a space and then type the formula.  Using the above example of 5/8, you would type:  =0 5/8.  Excel will interpret the entry as .625 and apply the Fraction format to the cell.
