Many people have been experiencing extremely long startup times for the new Office 2008 applications. Initially, my startup time for Word was over 2 minutes – and this is with a brand new Mac! Apparently, the one of the lag issues results from Word’s font preview feature.
With a couple of minor adjustments in Word Preferences, I was able to change the startup time to a few seconds.
- With Word open, select Word > Preferences from the menu.
- Click General in the Word Preferences windows.
- Uncheck the box next to WSYSIWYG font and style menus.
- Uncheck the box next to Show Project Gallery at startup.
- Click OK
- Close and restart Word.
The application launch time should be considerably improved.
