One of the pet peeves of many people who work with numbered lists in Word is that once you have 10 or more items in a list, the numbers do not line up. Rather then line up by the period after the number, the list is aligned by the left-most character. This looks especially sloppy once your numbering is over 99.
To line up numbers by the decimal point, use the following steps:
- Select the entire list.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to the Numbering icon on the Home Ribbon
- Click Define New Number Format on the bottom of the dialog box.
- Click the Alignment drop-down list and select Centered.
- Click OK to close the Numbering dialog box.
Your new number format will then be stored in the Number Library for future use.
