You can add some very interesting effects to your images using the Picture Effects tool on the Format Ribbon. You can add such effects as shadows, reflection, glow, soft edges and 3-D Rotation. To further customize your effects, click the Picture Styles dialog launcher to display the Format Picture dialog box.
You can also apply image effects to clip art and drawing objects.
To Apply Effects to an Image
- Click on the graphic to which you want to apply an effect.
- Click the contextual Format tab under Picture Tools on the Ribbon.
- Click the Picture Effects button on the Picture Styles group and point to Preset, Shadow, Reflection, Glow, Soft Edges or Bevel.
- Click the effect you want to apply.
This option is also available in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

How do you turn on this formatting? My word 2007 doesn’t have it on the Picture Format tab ribbon.
Mark,
The Format tab will only appear on the Ribbon when an object is selected. So first you will need to click on the picture to select it – then you can chose any of the Picture Effects on the Format Tab.
I got that. Something must be wrong. I see no picture effects on the tab.
