Using Gridlines in Word 2007

by rhyttinen on December 16, 2008

When working with shapes in Word, it is easiest to align them by displaying the grid and then aligning the shape edges to the gridlines.  By default, gridlines are not visible on the screen.  To display them:

  • Select any object that you have added to the page.
  • On the Arrange group on the Ribbon, click the Align button and select View Gridlines from the menu.
Align Button > Show Gridlines

Align Button > Show Gridlines

  • Objects will now “snap” to the gridlines as you drag them near.

  • To modify the spacing between gridlines, click the Align button on the Arrange group on the Ribbon and choose Grid Settings.  Make your changes in the Horizontal and Vertical Spacing boxes.
