trash Securely Emptying the Trash in Mac OS X

Yesterday, we discussed how to Erase Free Space on your hard drive.- that is to say, to erase the empty space on your hard drive so that any files previously deleted cannot be restored.  Most of the time however, this process is not necessary as long as you use the Secure Empty Trash feature.  This will delete the files in your trash bin in such a way that they cannot be restored.  Be careful though – once they are gone, they are gone for good.

To Securely Empty the Trash:

  1. On the Finder Menu, click Finder
  2. Select Secure Empty Trash
  3. Click OK
