There are many places on the net to find Macintosh software. However, one of the most extensive is VersionTracker, a CNET company. Every day, software authors post applications, upgrades and patches that users can download. Some programs are commercial, some shareware while others are freeware. You can even sign up to receive a daily notice about any new software updates to the site (I have found some real software gems this way) or simply browse to their “Today’s Updates” page.
What I especially like about the site, is that users are able to comment and rate software programs, giving you an idea of any potential issues or problems with a program. It is handy to read what others have to say about an application before downloading it.
The site also has an excellent search feature – just type in the name or type of program you are looking for in the search box to display a list of available downloads. I typed in “Project Management” and received 51 hits – not bad.
Other features of the site include: Updates by Category, Top Download, Editors’ Picks plus various user tools.
