Naming a Range in Excel

by rhyttinen on January 31, 2009

If you frequently work with entire columns or rows of data, you can provide a range name to the cell range, allowing you to quickly identify a group of cells. Instead of manually selecting a large range of cells everytime you want to use them, using a range name allows you to select the range automatically by referring to its name. Additionally, you can use the range name anyplace where you would normally use a cell range reference, such as a formula. Using named ranges also allows you to quickly apply formatting to an entire range of cells.
