Turning off Stacks for Folders in OS X

by rhyttinen on January 31, 2009

When adding folders to the Dock in OS X, they automatically become a “Stack”; that is to say when you click them, they will display in either Fan, Grid or List view.

If you want to place a folder in the Dock without it turning into a Stack, you will need to first create an alias for the folder (control-click the folder and choose Make Alias from the pop-up menu).

Then, drag it to the right side of the Dock. Now, when you click the folder, it contents will display in a Finder window, just like a standard folder.
