The Login Items tab in the Accounts windows allows you to hide programs that are set to automatically launch when you log in. The programs will still run in the background – they just will not be visible on the screen.
To Hide Startup Programs:
- Click the Apple > System Preferences
- Click Accounts
- Click on your user name in the left window
- Click the Login Items tab
- Click the check box next to the item you want to hide in the Hide column
Note: This will not work with Apple Mail. If you wish to hide Apple Mail up startup, you can use an AppleScript application called HiddenMail to launch Apple Mail in a hidden state.
