You can tell Microsoft Word to add additional space (in points) before and/or after a paragraph. For instance, you may set your line spacing as single but want additional spacing between your paragraphs. Rather than creating this manually, you can add this setting in the Before and/or After boxes in the Paragraph dialog box, applying it to all paragraphs in your document.

To Change Spacing Before/After Paragraphs
- Click anywhere in the paragraph whose line spacing you wish to change.
- Click the Paragraph Dialog Launcher on the Home Ribbon to open the Paragraph dialog box.
- Click the Indents and Spacing tab.
- To add additional space before a new paragraph, type an amount (in points) in the Before box under the Spacing area.
- To add additional space after a paragraph, type an amount (in points) in the After box under the Spacing area.
- Click OK.
Tip: You can also modify paragraph spacing from the Page Layout tab. Enter the before and after values under the Spacing area of the Paragraph command set.
