Margins refer to the amount of white space between the text of the document and the left, right, top and bottom edges of the page. Margins can also be thought of as page boundaries — once the text reaches the boundary of the margin, it wraps to the next line or the next page.
Keep in mind that changing the margins of your document affects every page in your document – not just the active paragraph or page. To modify margins, click the Margins button on the Print Layout tab and make your selections.

To Set Standard Margins
- Click the Page Layout tab on the Ribbon.
- Click the Margins button and select Normal, Narrow, Moderate, Wide, Mirrored or Office 2003 default.
To Create Custom Margins
- Click the Page Layout tab on the Ribbon.
- Click the Margins button.
- Click Custom Margins in the list to display the Page Setup dialog box.
- Enter the margin values (in inches) in the Top, Left, Bottom and Right boxes in the Margins area.
- To make your margin settings the default for any new Word documents you create, click the Default button and then click Yes.
