Using PowerPoint’s Drawing Tools

by rhyttinen on September 10, 2009

PowerPoint contains many powerful drawing tools that allow you to add lines, arrows, shapes, text boxes, and more to your slides. These tools are located on the Drawing group under the Home Ribbon. Move your mouse pointer over any drawing icon to display an informational box explaining what the drawing tool is.

One of the most common tools you will use is the text box. Text boxes allow you to place text anywhere on your slide, outside of any existing placeholders. For example, you can add a caption to a picture by creating a text box and situating it near the picture. Using text boxes as well as the other drawing tools can really add pizzazz to your presentation and can help you to convey your message more easily and effectively.

To Add a Drawing Object to Your Slide

  1. Select the slide into which you wish to insert the drawing object.
  2. Select the drawing tool you wish to use.
  3. Click the More button to display additional drawing objects.
