Shortcut Keys in Excel

Many users prefer to accomplish as much as possible by using the keyboard, instead of the mouse (I happen to be such a user). Below are a few helpful shortcut keys to get things done in Excel without having to leave your keyboard:

Number Formatting

  • Ctrl+ Shift+ 1 Format the current cell with commas
  • Ctrl+ Shift+ 4 Format the current cell as currency
  • Ctrl+ Shift+ 5 Format the current cell as a percentage

Deleting/Inserting

  • Ctrl+ - Delete the current cell or selection
  • Ctrl+ Shift+ + Insert cell or selection
  • Ctrl+ ; Insert current date at the selected cell
  • Ctrl+ Shift+ ; Insert current time at the selected cell
  • Ctrl+ K Insert a hyperlink or web link

Navigation/Selecting

  • Ctrl+ Tab Switch to the next worksheet in the workbook
  • Shift+ F3 Open the formula window
  • Ctrl+F Open the search box
  • Ctrl+ Space Select all of the current column
  • Shift+ Space Select all of the current row
  • Ctrl+ Arrow key Move to the next cell containing data in the direction of the arrow key
  • F11 Create a chart
  • F3 Set insertion point within cell

Saving

  • Ctrl+ S Save workbook
  • F12 Save worksheet as template
