How to Share a Link to Your OneDrive Files and Folders

You can use now share your OneDrive files (photos, Microsoft Office documents, text files, etc.) or entire folders with others from the OneDrive web site. You have the choice of sharing a link with others or sendind them an invitation via email. You can even share a link to a file via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, which comes in handy if you have a newsletter that you want others to be able to view.

  1. Logon to your OneDrive account at https://onedrive.live.com.
  2. Navigate to the folder that contains the item you want to share.
  3. Move your mouse cursor over the file or folder you want to share and click the circle in the upper right corner of the item when it appears.

  4. Tap or click “Share” on top of the page to display the Share box. 

  5. Click the Copy button to copy the link to the Clipboard.

  6. Paste the link to wherever you want others to be able to access it.
  7. To share the link via Social Media, click the More on the bottom of the window and choose which service (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) in which you want to share the link. Enter in any additional text.

To Share OneDrive Files and/or Folders via an Email invitation:

  1. Logon to your OneDrive account at https://onedrive.live.com.
  2. Navigate to the folder that contains the item you want to share.
  3. Move your mouse cursor over the file or folder you want to share and click the circle in the upper right corner of the item when it appears.
  4. Tap or click “Share” on top of the page to display the Share box.
  5. Click the word Email

  6. Enter in the Email address or contact names of the recipient(s)

  7. Include an optional message in the message box.

  8. Click Share.

You can stop sharing an item by clicking the x next to the item’s name in the Details pane on the right side of your screen.

To Stop Sharing a File or Folder

  1. Logon to your OneDrive account at https://onedrive.live.com.
  2. Navigate to the folder that contains the item you want to share.
  3. Move your mouse cursor over the file or folder you want to share and click the circle in the upper right corner to select it. The Details pane displays on the right side of the screen.
