Quickly Insert Online Images in Office 2016 Documents

Posted by Roger Hyttinen on

You can easily insert images from the Internet into your Microsoft Office 2016 documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote) by using the Online Pictures icon on the Insert Ribbon. What this does is allows you to search for images using Bing Image Search.

Type in the description for what you are searching for in the Search Box and results matching your search term will display. You can then download the image and insert it into your document.

Note that images are subject to copyright so be sure you obtain permission from the website’s owner before using any image publicly. Many images are covered under the Creative Commons license, which allows you to use the image in certain situations as long as attribution is made to the image creator.

To Insert an Online Picture

  1. Click the Insert tab on the Ribbon.
  2. Click the Online Pictures button on the Illustrations group of the Ribbon.
  3. Click in the Bing search box and type in the search term for the image you want and then press Enter. If you want to insert images from your OneDrive account, click Browse in the OneDrive area.
  4. Click the image that you want to insert.
  5. Click the Insert button.

Applies to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote 2016
